Monkey Threats

Did you know monkeys think making eye contact is a threat? Humans are the only creature like a primate that encourage eye contact. Maybe it’s because having the guts to issue a direct threat makes us seem confident.

Today the kids have been making monkey threats at each other. They’ve been holding staring contests while making monkey noises and hopping around. I would think they would find it too hot! The past couple days have been cool and lovely, but today has been pretty warm! Still, it’s not too warm to make monkey threats! They’re going wild with it.

I have a feeling this is going to be a long lasting game. What is it about old things, like a staring contest, that makes them fun again with nothing more than a name change? It’s the same old game. I just don’t get it!

Even Luca finds this game funny. He runs away or giggles each time. He tries to mimic the monkey noises. He tries to hop but he just can’t get the lift. Instead he does this crazy balancing act on his toes with his arms flailing. Sometimes he manages on one foot. The one foot balancing act makes him look like a tight rope walker that’s about to fall. The other kids find this quite comical.

With each day life is getting one step more amusing. I can’t wait to see where this road takes us. Just stay tuned and keep us in your thoughts. We want to land on our feet in a place that makes us just as happy as we are here.

With four kids, who has time for much? We spend a lot of time together, which translates to a lot of knitting time for me when we hang out. We've been trying to get back to our unschooling roots. We watch a lot of videos, play a lot of games, and pay attention to the things we notice in our everyday life. It's been quite the big adventure!
