Rainy Days Are Crazy Days

Have you ever noticed on those days you don’t plan to do much, that’s when everything happens? I’ve been doing my best decluttering and cleaning today. I’m almost willing to bet it’s because it’s rainy and that canceled our plans. No outdoor music if it’s raining…

At first it seemed like the usual, but better. For the first time since our trip to Austin I was able to shave my legs. Why? Because the kids were happily occupied doing something that didn’t involve fighting or asking me a million questions. Then I got to enjoy a shower. When that was done, I cleaned out the cubby where the computer stuff is tucked away. It’s all useless junk, wires to…well…something or other, broken, salvaged parts, and a few good pieces we never use. That space would be just perfect for the games that keep on tumbling off the washer and dryer, which was only supposed to be a temporary solution anyway. Cleaning all that junk out had me going on a bug raid, and I’m proud to say I didn’t scream like a little girl. I’ve got to weed out the games at some point too, especially the ones that really have no place in my home. Harry Potter Trivial Pursuit is a waste of space. Mouse Trap was fun, but it’s a massive undertaking to play. I’d much rather keep games we enjoy playing as a family rather than things that sounded good at the time or were mostly thoughtful gifts. As much as I hate to say it, the Bible trivia game will probably be going too. As much as I love trivia games, it’s only fun if everyone’s at least closely matched, and we don’t have enough friends over for board games to make it worth keeping. I’ve even considered nixing Apples to Apples, but it’s a favorite whenever we do have guests. When Sander and Luca are older it could make for a great “in house” game too. For a card game, it’s pretty much the best entertainment we’ve found!

In the mean time the kids have been enjoying the living room. One of our couches died, so we got it out of here. It made a huge difference! We have so much more space! There’s no longer enough seating in our living room, but the space is worth it. The kids are so much happier with more space to play!

Oh well…so much for slacking… It’s time to get back on the war path…bugs, ants, clutter, dust, and dirt don’t stand a chance! It was in trouble before, but Beekee’s joined the cause. It’s all doomed…

With four kids in the house, who has time for much? Well, we're trying to make it work, trying to get as close to our unschooling roots as we can while state restrictions and family pressures try to stand in our way. Every day is a new adventure.
